Why is Mc Tominay so likeable? Villa vs Arsenal 🙌

Welcome to both the final edition of the Prem Report in 2025 and the first edition of 2026!
As a parting gift, 2025 is leaving us with one of the best match ups at the best times.
#1 Arsenal and #3 Aston Villa (chefs kiss).
We as a newsletter try to be impartial…but we can’t help but get a little happy inside when we see Villa doing well. Having three teams challenge for the league title sounds pretty pretty good.
Come on 2026, make it a good one.

Ending 2025 with a bang!
Here… we… go… Aston Villa arrive at the Emirates riding an 11-game winning streak in all competitions,(not a typo) matching a club record last set in 1914, and sitting just three points behind Arsenal in what’s suddenly looking like a genuine three-horse title race. Villa’s turnaround has been remarkable, winless and sat in 18th after the first five matchdays, they are now collecting more wins and points than anyone since Matchweek 6.
Arsenal, meanwhile, keep finding ways to win without fully convincing. Their narrow victories over Wolves, Everton, and Brighton have leaned heavily on own goals (bold strategy Cotton), but they’ve still won six straight home league matches and remain top of the table. Arteta will be keen to settle the score after Villa’s late smash-and-grab in the reverse fixture. Also Unai Emery is unbeaten in his last two league visits to the Emirates.
Ollie Watkins looms large again after his two-goal cameo against Chelsea, and he’s already scored four times away at Arsenal. With Villa missing key pieces in midfield and Arsenal boosted by Gabriel’s return, it feels like we have an epic in the making.

🔴 Liverpool vs 🦉 Leeds - 9:30 AM -USA
🐝 Brentford vs 🐓 Tottenham - 12:00 PM - Peacock
🐈⬛ Sunderland vs 🌙 Man City - 12:00 PM - USA
Manchester City travel to the Stadium of Light aiming to extend their recent dominance over Sunderland, having won their last seven Premier League encounters with the Black Cats. The home side have struggled against City (understatement).
Despite City’s supremacy in recent years, Sunderland enter the match with a bit of an ace up their sleave…they haven’t lost their first league fixture of the calendar year in the past seven seasons (W3 D4). The question lies in whether Sunderland can channel past glories and mount a resistance, or if Pep Guardiola’s juggernaut will steam role through.
