🟦 Everton vs 🦁 Chelsea — 10:30 AM — USA
Chelsea head to Goodison Park looking to steady a season that’s looking shaky at probably the worst possible time. Having conceded eight goals across two legs in their Champions League exit to PSG and now losing two of their last three league matches, they have slipped into sixth place. Defensive issues have crept in domestically as well, with the Blues failing to keep a clean sheet in eight straight Premier League games. Despite that, they’ve historically controlled this matchup, keeping 12 clean sheets in their last 19 league meetings with Everton.
Everton, have been a different animal at home, losing just one of their last eight league games against Chelsea on their own turf. They’ve already collected 43 points this season (their best tally at this stage since 2021) and sit within reach of the European places, but consistency remains an issue, particularly in attack, having failed to score in 12 of their last 19 meetings with the Blues! With Chelsea chasing a top-five finish and Everton pushing for a potential European spot of their own, this match has all the motivation needed for a goal fest. To quote Michael Scott: "Desperate situations yield the quickest results”.
🦉 Leeds vs 🐝 Brentford — 1:00 PM — USA
Monday, March 22
⚫️ Newcastle vs 🐈⬛ Sunderland — 5:00 AM — USA
The Tyne-Wear derby returns to St. James’ Park for the first time since 2016 with Newcastle looking to shake off a brutal European exit and reignite their push for Europe. Despite sitting ninth and coming off back-to-back league wins, the Magpies have a poor recent record in this fixture (winless in their last five home meetings with Sunderland) They are also without a clean sheet against them since 2011.
Sunderland, meanwhile, arrive with just a little bit of street cred. They are one of only three teams yet to lose when scoring first this season and have recovered 16 points from losing positions. The Black Cats have also won seven of the last eight meetings between the sides and are unbeaten in their last 10 against Newcastle, while chasing consecutive away wins for the first time since 2014. With Newcastle dropping 19 points from winning positions this season (one of the worst in the league), the scales seem to be leaning in Sunderland’s favor.
