Matchweek 31(ish)

A good ol top vs bottom matchup

Deep breath everyone, the Premier League is preemptively taking a nose-full of Sudafed and moving up a game from week 31 to now, preventing late season match congestion.

(Cue Arsenal fan obnoxiously apologizing for playing in so many competitions)

Also our condolences to The United Strand and his luscious locks. Man United will start over in their quest of five consecutive wins this weekend after tying West Ham last week. But on the bright side, at least he’s not a Brentford fan, they haven’t won five straight in since 2020 😬.

Matchweek 31 Fixture

Wednesday, February 18

🐺 Wolves vs 🔫 Arsenal — 12:00 PM — USA
Arsenal head to Molineux with a massive gap between the sides; 18 places and 48 points. The league leaders meet a Wolves side sitting deep in the trough of disillusionment drop zone and still winless in their last six matches (too bad there’s not a hairstyle for that). Wolves are now 18 points from safety and have already lost 10 of their 13 home league games this season, a rate only beaten in fewer matches once in Premier League history.

The reverse fixture showed how thin margins can be, with Arsenal needing a 94th-minute own goal to avoid dropped points in a 2-1 win. (Wolves also conceded another own goal that game). Despite the gulf in the table, Wolves have lost 16 of their 20 Premier League matches against teams starting the day top of the table.

History heavily favors the visitors: Arsenal have won nine of their 11 away league games against Wolves and have scored in each of their last 36 meetings across all competitions. Wolves, meanwhile, have lost their last nine league games against the Gunners since completing the double over them in 2020-21.
